why a RP clothing critique thread?
- Astrid and I both treat RP gear in game like we're dressing up barbie dolls. We painstakingly camp the AH, farm instances and raids, and always are asking guildies to keep their eyes out for low level greens that most people don't take a second look at. While most people are going to use the critique thread for art and writing, we've found that some times, people need a bit of help with their RP gear, too. Particularly some of you guys. No bueno.
what can we post up in the critique thread?
- The best thing would probably be to log out in your RP gear (but realize we might not see it if you change gear the next time you log out) -- unless you are a worgen who RPs in human form, then a clear screenshot would be wonderful. If you're going to give us a screenshot, be sure to add which items you're wearing that you're absolutely against changing. Sometimes people try to form an outfit over one particular piece or two, so just let us know what you want to keep.
will you help me find matching pieces to specific looks i'm trying to put together?
- Absolutely! It might take some time but we'll do our best.
what if you want me to rework my entire outfit?
- Chances are this won't happen unless it's a very base, very casual outfit (shirt, pants, boots, belt). We'll try to keep some of it. And we'll never go tell you to buy some ridiculously overpriced item or your outfit just doesn't work, either. Both of us have had to compromise so many times on our own RP outfits to get them to work. We're cheap.
will you offer outfit ratings?
- I don't think offering ratings would be very constructive. We're not just going to pass and fail people. If you think your outfit is faboo and you still want feedback on it, we can all fawn over it and flail in this thread, that's fine -- but the point really is to help people out who are struggling with their RP gear.
how are you with male outfits?
- Both of us have male characters, and my (Viensa) male character is more of my main, and he has a derpy dee human male model, but I think I do pretty good with it. Certainly finding clothing for guys is much harder but there's definitely stuff to work with.
how do we know you guys don't suck at putting together RP gear?
- idk i'll make us do screenshots soon, but I'd pretty much take a look at most of Astrid's characters on the WoW armory (since my characters are worgen and nothing I leave them in is going to look decent) because she usually logs out in some kind of RP gear.
I am a fashionably blessed bear and I approve of this venture.

I'll bite!
This is Talon Silverash. He's an old Argent Crusader who has suddenly become entangled with the Farstrider Defense Initiative, as much to his surprise as anyone else's. The first outfit is the one I need help with the most, and it's what he tends to wear out into the field (whatever, he's not the stealthy type and not even going to pretend he is). The second outfit is his semi-casual outfit that his not-girlfriend relentlessly teases him about (it's armour, not a dress, dammit all). And the third outfit is for when he feels like getting out of armour for awhile.
Things I want to change: Boots (Silvered Bronze Boots), Gloves (Enduring Gauntlets). I'd also like a belt. I don't mind if the pieces are not exactly matched, I like how the boots pick up the brown and silver in the pants, but they're so damned untextured that I feel like there's gotta be a better option.
Things I don't want to change: Shoulders (Tablet-Bearer's Pauldrons), Chest (Dark Vessel Breastplate), Legs (Legguards of Caution), Sword (Stagwich Slicer). I got the matching items questing somewhere, but I don't know if I missed some other pieces or if they simply don't exist.
He's also wearing a Brown Linen Shirt and the heirloom Worn Stoneskin Gargoyle Cape. I like them both and don't feel a need to change them, but I'll listen to suggestions.
I wouldn't mind a set of shoulders for this, OR, if you know of any other studded leather looking robes, that'd be awesome.
This outfit is: Cosmos Vestments, Brown Linen Shirt, Heart Grippers (gloves), Conch-Sound Waistguard, Deathseed Crushers (boots).
This is the Journeyman's Vest, Brown Linen Shirt, Radiant Silver Armguards, Binding Chains (waist), Buccaneer's Pants, Resilient Boots. I feel like there might be a better boot option out there, and I could consider different pants.

Outfit Number One!
I think we found what you were looking for -- you didn't want exact set matches but you wanted something to bring out the bronze/dark brown in the set. We have a bunch of alternatives, though. Overall the outfit is good and we both love the bringing out the bronze/browns 8D
For the shirt, we're suggesting you switch to a Rustic Workman's Shirt, since it's darker and actually ends up matching bits of the legs more. For boots, Larry's Boots, gloves, Swamp Gas Gauntlets, and for the belt, Doc's Belt works well to tie it all together.

Nooooow, if you don't want to do a belt and you want a different look, by say, keeping the gauntlets you have, and staying with a dark shirt, you can always pick up the Crustacean Stompers which are dark blue and black. That's a much easier alternative because you'd only be fetching one thing -- and honestly every plate wearer should have those boots. If you don't have them, why. They're amazing.
Last outfit, idk tbqh. We're still mulling that one over, but the red&green&brown combo is kind of hard to overcome. Gonna sleep on dat one.

HE IS MANLY THAT'S FO SHO. You know I wasn't even aware they put shirts like that in game with the little bottom... thingy thang, where it overlaps the pants. I think that's new to Cata.
imo though, after seeing all the fanart of Talon, I think you really need to get him a pilgrim's robe from the Thanksgiving holiday in game coming up. and then just RP that he's in an apron... only.
The only thing we changed is the belt, boots and pants:

Most of my outfits are actual ingame sets, but I recently put together one that I'd like a bit of help with.
This is Okiee's engineering/casual outfit. Sometimes she takes off the shoulders and goggles, but most of the time they're kept on.
The outfit, at its core (the boots are VERY temporary), consists of: Energized Bio-Optic Killshades, Frost Witch's Shoulderpads, Chestguard of Siphoned Elements, Antiseptic-Soaked Dressing, Expedition Gloves, Titan-Forged Waistguard of Salvation, Expedition Pants, and Scepter of Sha'tar.
Thing I want to keep: the belt, the chest, the helm and the weapon (YOU DON'T KNOW HOW LONG I FARMED FOR IT HNNNG. Also, Okiee thinks it's a wrench. :D). I'd also like to keep the shirt for IC reasons: Okiee is clumsy and constantly gets burns, but that one's a maybe.

There is a similar style that's a leatherworking craftable but the color scheme doesn't match nearly as well.

They look much different on a smaller character than on my human model here.
If RNGing it up in those two raids isn't desirable or an option for you, (though you can easily solo the Chess event and the bosses leading up to it), let me know and I'll eliminate raid drops from my criteria.

I can pretty easily get the gloves and farming Kara shouldn't be an issue for me, but could you list alternatives for the pants and boots anyways? (And what are the LW pants? Wowhead isn't listing anything with the same model)

We'll see what we can come up with. (IIRC, Astrid's concern over the LW pants that I've linked were that they're more green than brown -- the t10 sets for Hunter went brown, green, purple, I think? Or maybe it was green, purple, red.)
Yes those are the craftable version, and they're too green--doesn't work at all :C
There is no other skin that's readily attainable of the boots or the legs, so if you don't want those I'll have to go through and redo it, but I am pretty in love with those pants. If you can tag along on an ICC10 run at least up until Dreamwalker--it's not terribly hard anymore, even on heroic; if you've got a resto spec you can offer to heal in exchange for those pants should they drop!
I'll go ahead and try to put something else together for ya, though, in the mean time.

I put together an ICC run, reserved the pants and they didn't drop (I didn't even get the mace I rolled on for shits and giggles... /sigh). Also solo'd chess and the boots didn't drop either.
I want to strangle the RNG right now.
I really love the pants and I guess I'll be trying every week to get them and the boots.
The leatherworking pants actually look more grey than green on my monitor... I think I'll be trying for them, if only as a stand-in until I can grab the darker pants off of Dreamwalker.

Any restrictions on armor type? Would you like an all-over set put together? I'll start poking around to see what I can find, but depending on your armor limitations I may need to dip into different armor types--I know that one's a toughie to get a decent outfit for.

As far as armor goes, preferably sticking with leather, but I can work with mail, too. An all over set would be cool, but usually with rp sets I don't worry too much about getting full sets. A belt would be good, but boots aren't necessary since the outfit will probably be for a troll or tauren. :)

I'd adore some help with Gavick's outfit!(what he is currently wearing in wow armory)
I'm not opposed to changing all of it; however, it is the idea behind it that I want to keep. He's a broad chested muscular worgen. I like the feel of the chest piece, seeming to be mail but with plates of metal. He is on the feral side, so something that looks to offer movement is needed.
The downside: he's a lowbie. I'm working on leveling him, but it is going slowly. So something available to characters pre-outlands.
Edit!: He does occaisionally leave his worgen form, something that looked decent on a human would be nice. No male bikini plate. >.
