Password never works

Every time I want to log in, I have to use the 'forgot your password' option. But believe me, I didn't forget my password!

Steps:

Try to log in with my usual name/password, fail. Just for kicks, try my email address/password, fail.

Request new password, click on link, use the one-time login option.

You land on the page where you set your password. I set it to the same one I've been using all along. (Retyping it twice, not cutting/pasting, so I know I'm not reproducing a typo over and over.)  [I've also tried different passwords, just in case.]

Save the change.

Log out.

Use the login link at the top of the screen, use my username/password I just set. Fails. For kicks try my email address/password, fails.

Use the 'forgot your password link...

I had this issue when the site first opened (which is the big part of the reason I didn't come back much, it was too much of a pain to log in). It's been happening nonstop since I returned, too.

I'm using Firefox with noscripts, but this site is whitelisted. I'm not having this issue anywhere else. I'm confused what else to try.

Thanks! :)

ellyflowers actually had/has this exact same problem.. I thought maybe she was messing up capitalization somewhere. Will be interesting to see if I'm wrong and there's an actual fix.

I'm not calling you a ghost, just stop haunting me.

Thanks for the link!  I'll post my fix here, in case it helps other people.

Turned out the link held the key: Usernames are case sensitive. My username was saved as "thistle", so no matter how many times I retyped it, it would go back to lower case.

In Firefox: Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: "Saved Passwords" > "Show Passwords" . If you're like me and have lots of things listed, search for 'wyrm'. You'll see your login name listed. Highlight it, click remove.

I'm not sure if this is necessary, but next I came back to this site and I cleared both user name and password fields, then reloaded the page. Then I typed it in correctly "Thistle" and the password I had reset so many times, and it worked!

I've had an entertaining number of people contact me regarding this, and I've yet to find a case where I've confirmed it's not one of two things: capitalization or a browser filling in the wrong username. In light of that, I've now stickied a topic about this. (But if you've gone through those things and still are having issues, I would appreciate being contacted to sort out if there's anything odd going on.)
