Arnen
Character Biography
- Physical Appearance
This kaldorei girl is very tall to human eyes, though to her own people she's rather short. She's very slender of build, and while the tone of muscle is evident, it's obvious that she's built for agility rather than brute strength. Her stance is comfortable, yet at the same time tense, seeming as though she could spring at any moment.
Her skin is very pale, tinted with blue, especially around the lips. Glowing softly, her eyes are silver, colored with blue that hints at a parentage that may be more than simply kaldorei. The bright azure color of her hair is striking, and the locks fall slightly wavy to her collar in the front, and are straigher and slightly shorter in the back. One who knows much of night elf culture might find it odd for a hunter to bear the markings for "blade" on her cheeks, the same electric blue color as her hair.
Her left brow is pierced with a simple barbel stud, either end etched with a crescent moon symbol. Also pierced is her right ear, with a silver cuff attached with a chain to a stud in her lobe. While her hands are usually covered, if she were to remove her gloves/gauntlets, a plethora of small scars, gouges, and burns would be visible on her hands and forearms.
Arnen always carries a long, slender recurve bow made of yew, stained black and decorated with silver crescent moons. Her arrows (her trademark) are expertly cut, fletched with soft grey feathers. Both the bow and a score of arrows are held in a simillarly-decorated black leather quiver, which is held on her back or at her hip. For melee weapons, she has recently taken to a shortsword/dagger combination. The weapons are matched, silver with black runes decorating the blades, and both glow a conspicuous azure.
Her clothes are mostly neat and well-kept... though there may be the occasional stray clump of animal fur or blood here or there. She most often wears a short-sleeved azure shirt (simillar in color to her hair) with silver trim over a sleeveless black undershirt, leaving her midriff bare. Her hands are clad in black gloves, covered in white knot-like markings; her boots match the gloves, and reach halfway up her calves. Dark blue pants are tucked into said boots, and are held at her waist by a black-runed silver belt. Around her forehead is wound a plain black headband.
Arnen's armor is in good condition: well-repaired, the chain links kept clean and in place. The mail is black, over dark blue leather. It's cut simply, with the hauberk covering most of her torso. Light plate spaulders protect her shoulders, but her arms are bare of armor, allowing for greater mobility (though she does wear her azure shirt under it). She does wear leather gauntlets which cover most of her forearms, with a series of small, overlapping metal plates covering the backs. She also wears mail legguards and greaves, and a matching coronet adorns her forehead.
Pets:
Gaerwin: Her best friend, Gaerwin, is a gigantic white bear (think Amani War Bear huge). Because of his size, Arnen often uses him as a mount/packmule, and so he is frequently seen wearing heavy plate armor (a la white bear mount) with a saddle, and numerous bags of provisions and things tied on. Gaer is (pardon) smarter than the average bear, and can engage in full conversation with his mistress and others with a knack for understanding animals. He can understand Darnassian, and some basic commands in Common.Aislynn: While Gaerwin has become Arnen's favorite traveling companion, her very first animal friend, Aislynn, holds a special place in her heart. Aislynn is a spirit cat, and so her form changes every so often - sometimes appearing pale and ghostly, other times taking on a darker, more corporeal form.
Coran: Her most recent companion is a large, dark-grey worg called Coran. The beast is still mostly wild, and not well trained, with a tendency towards excitement and a fondness for digging and running.
Arnen has a grey war ram, Feoras, who accompanies her when Gaerwin stays at home. She also has a snowy gryphon named Ceridwen.
- History
Known Relatives:
-Mother: Ashandra Moonblade, a Sentinel in Astranaar.
-Father (deceased): Dolenthar Lonechild. Orphaned (or abandoned as a bastard) as an infant, and was found to have little promise as a druid, he took to living off the land as a hunter. Rumored to be the son of a night elf and high elf. Killed in the Battle of Mount Hyjal.
-Cousin: Lareiiel, a Sentinel, as well as numerous other Sentinel cousins.
-Pets (though she thinks of them simply as friends): Gaerwin, a huge armored dork of a polar bear; Aislynn (pronounced ASH-lin), an oft-changing spirit cat; Coran, a large, grey-brown worg; Feoras, an armored grey war ram; Ceridwen, her snowy gryphon.Arnen was born in Ashenvale to a Sentinel of the Moonblade clan, a family that has a longstanding tradition of female warriors. Her father, a hunter, was the one who raised her when she was small, as her mother's duties kept her away.
It was simply assumed that Arnen would follow the path of her mother, her grandmother, her aunts and cousins. And as a young girl, she was enthusiastic in her training, and was very excited when she was taken to Darkshore to continue her learning.
The young kaldorei loved to explore, even then. Though she sincerely wanted to make her mother proud, she would often wander from her training, to explore the coastal ruins that litter northern Darkshore. During one such expedition, however, things began to change.
Travelling further than usual, to the very northernmost stretches of the shore, she came upon a new set of ruins, littered with curious stone statues depicting nightsabres in various poses. Arnen was fascinated by them, and began collecting them over the course of several weeks. When she had gathered a number of the idols, the girl was shocked when a ghostly apparition, a sabre like the ones depicted by the statues, made itself known to her.
Arnen had always liked animals. Since she was small, she had been able to understand them better than her cousins. However, with this ghost sabre, she found she could practically carry on a conversation with the animal. It told her of the lands beyond the ancestral forests: deep jungles, scorched deserts, jagged canyons; and the young elf began to yearn for other lands.
It became difficult to stay away from her new friend - whom she had named Aislynn, which means "spirit", or "vision" - and concentrate on her Sentinel training. Eventually, Arnen got up the courage to approach her mother, and told her of her desire to leave the forests and explore Azeroth. Her mother reluctantly agreed, and so, with her blessing, Arnen stepped out from under the protective boughs of her foremothers' lands and began to wander Kalimdor.
Arnen delved deep into Kalimdor's numerous ruins, and always at her side was her friend, Aislynn. In her isolation, she developed her own variations of Sentinal techniques and spells, and was mostly content.
However, during these meanderings, Kalimdor was beginning to change. While Arnen was investigating the ruins of the Tanaris desert, her people were going to war alongside the humans and the orcs to drive back the Burning Legion. While she was busy exploring, her own father fell in the Battle of Mount Hyjal. When she finally felt the waning of the World Tree's power, she fled back to Ashenvale, to her grieving mother.
It felt to her as though she should have been there; she should have been there to protect her father, to save her mother this pain. She felt she had been selfish, giving up the path to protect her family to satisfy her own wanderlust.
But she couldn't stay put for very long; she simply had to know more about the strange green-skinned ones who were now colonizing the eastern half of the continent. Arnen traveled more briefly, now, returning home frequently between stints ofobservation.
She learned much about the orcs and their allies, and felt a deep compassion for their displaced masses. She's never really seen the races of the Horde as her enemies; she instead sees parents, children, lovers, friends. Through all her adventures she has maintained this belief: that everyone on Azeroth should at least be given a chance to live happily.

- Personality
Arnen is a very friendly, upbeat person most of the time. She tries her damndest to befriend most everyone she meets (though it's usually laughably awkward). She dislikes hurting people (which may or may not be a good thing in some situations), but is practical enough to see when it's necessary. As such, she's wont to show mercy to her enemies (as long as it seems practical at the time). Also notable is her tendency to see things as they really are - she has a talent for "reading" people and situations, and has no reserves against pointing out when something seems off. Being, again, a very pragmatic individual, Arnen is quite willing to overlook barriers such as race, faction, and other such things that would set most people off, if she needs to work with someone. For example, she has no problems working with a practicioner of the fel arts, if she deems it necessary and helpful. That's not to say she won't use caution; she just won't automatically refuse the help of someone different than her. And when something gets her down, Arnen prefers to use misfortune to motivate herself to overcome it. Socially, Arnen is very... oblivious. Living in the wilderness with nothing but animals for company for a couple of centuries'll do that to ya. Sometimes this can be helpful, allowing her to bypass social taboos; more often, though, it just makes her awkward and frustrated in social situations. In addition, she can get very bitter, especially when someone hurts her or a friend. She can also be rather scatterbrained, and focus on something too much to see the bigger picture. If she latches onto an idea, thinks it's the coolest idea ever, she often won't see any potential dangers or flaws to said idea. She also has a great distaste for sleeping in a place with which she's not familliar, to the point where she will try to distract herself to keep awake. She has a tendency to scratch at the side of her face, along one of the tribal tattoos on her cheeks, when she's nervous. She also often pauses when she speaks one of her secondary languages, giving her speech a halting feel to it. And on occasion, she'll forget she was speaking aloud at all, and trail off into her thoughts.
