Character Biography

Physical Appearance

Eishashin seems to be in her early thirties in elven terms and is on the short side for an elf of her race at about five feet four inches. While attractive enough, she wouldn't be remarkable in a crowd in Silvermoon were it not for her rather... interesting coloration, or rather lack of. Formerly tanned and with dark auburn hair, her resurrection stripped her of all coloring, leaving her with an extremely pale porcelain complexion and silvery white hair. Combined with the glowing blue eyes ubiquitous to all death knights, it's rather startling. Her hair is in a simple, short, chin-length style, and a pair of ruby earrings are the only things that bring color to her face.

Other than the lack of pigmentation, there is nothing else to indicate she's undead other than a rather lower body temperature. She has virtually every other living bodily function, even though in this case it's now sparked by necromantic energy instead of conventional 'life', and there is utterly no sign of decomposition pending. This alone for her is an indication she should stop bitching and be grateful.

Build-wise, she's much more heavily boned and muscled than most elf women. While still very slim by human standards, to quel' or sin'dorei she's positively stocky and muscular, with wider hips and a degree of curvature to her figure that betrays her trace of human ancestry.

While usually found in plate armor, she has her attacks of 'girly-girlness' and occasionally carts around in a dress of some shade of pink or green. Due to her deep connection to Frost, both armor and/or dress can sometimes get a layer of rime and localized temperature drop when Eishashin is angry, upset, or otherwise agitated.

History

Eishashin was born in Silvermoon to Eldinar and Niena Dawnbrook, who were respectively a teacher/ cultural ambassador to neighboring Lordaeron and a Dalaran-born alchemist and herbalist. Her childhood was mostly a happy one, with one of her fondest memories being on a trip with her parents to Lordaeron in winter.

This abruptly changed when her mother became ill with a wasting disease, very likely cancer. Despite the best the magisters and priests could manage, over the course of a year Niena experienced a slow, agonizing decline that was nearly as horrific for her husband and daughter as it was for herself. By the time she died, a shadow of the vibrant and beautiful woman she had been, it was a terrible mercy for all involved.

As if that hadn't been enough, young Eishashin entered puberty shortly thereafter, far too early for a pureblooded quel'dorei. Which she wasn't-- her mother had been an eighth human though didn't physically express it much. Eishashin was another matter entirely, and she got a firsthand taste of both the cruelty of children and the latent racism of the Highborne with the misery that was her adolesence. Her father, unfortunately, was still gutted by his wife's death and was emotionally ill-equipped to deal with the situation at the time.

Combined with a toxic, emotionally abusive attempt at a romantic relationship, this set the stage for her bottling everything under a tight lid and a facade of indifference. She found refuge of a sort in the Farstriders once she entered womanhood and rose to be a sort of NCO, though still kept herself tightly reined under a mask of abrasiveness and workaholism. Her one solace was her pet dragonhawk Lire, who became the only being she truly trusted and allowed herself to love.

Then the Scourge attacked.

Eishashin and her small squad of rangers fought near the Thalassian Gate, but one by one fell until only Eishashin and Lire were left. And then Eish was forced to watch her beloved pet be torn to shreds by ghouls.

The only thing that ended the red haze of madness that ensued was the abomination whose fist crushed both Eishashin Dawnbrook's ribcage and her life.

The next few things she remembered afterward were hazy and disconnected and horrific, as though in a nightmare. Then she parsed that her sword with its glowing runes was mowing through civilians of the Scarlet Crusade, and the nightmare awoke to hell. With no free will of her own she slaughtered her way through enemies of the Scourge, her soul screaming at her to stop, while the thing that had once been Arthas Menethil lurked in the back of her mind and enjoyed every drop of her suffering. The coup de grace was using her for cannon fodder at Light's Hope Chapel.

It was a supreme shock for all involved parties when that didn't happen and the death knight that had been a Farstrider was freed from the Lich King's control, with a few whispered words of love from the shade of her mother and the promise of her new status being a second chance to do things better than before.

Of course, that knowledge fought with the rude awakening for Eishashin that in the intervening years somehow the majority of her people's survivors had allied with the very orcs that had burned Eversong Forest, Quel'thelas was a ravaged shell of what it had been, and she no longer recognized the Silvermoon she'd given her life for or the people within it. Once freed, she wandered the streets of Silvermoon, derelict and slowly going mad both from the enormity of what had happened and from the yawning chasm where her sense of nature had once been.

Fortunately, because of the dream of a tauren druid and a former paladin now fellow death knight's willingness to act on it, that didn't happen. She found a refuge in Thunder Bluff and began to rebuild her life... or whatever passed for it.

She's never forgotten that in a sense this is a second chance, and she's not going to muff this one.

That's going to be her greatest and best revenge against the Lich King.

Personality

Unlike the stereotypical grim and sour personality of a Knight of the Ebon Blade, Eish is actually happy to still be around. She's not happy about how it happened, and she still has screaming nightmares about New Avalon at times, but she's nonetheless grateful she's still around and still has things to enjoy. In some ways, she's acquired things she'd never have had in her first life, so her outlook is definitely of what might be termed 'punch-drunk optimism'.

She's fully aware that for a death knight she's won the lottery; she still remembers her prior life, she still has living family, she's actually a bit warm and shows absolutely no sign of decomposition, so she's firmly putting her best face on the situation and trying to stagger on.

In her first life she'd put up the facade of a hard-ass drill sergeant type in the Farstriders, much to her own emotional and social detriment. She's seen her rebirth and freeing from the Lich King's control as an opportunity to fix that and show more of the real person underneath, but she still swerves back and forth between the personae depending on her emotional state. She still likes her beer and has a vocabulary in reserve that could curl your hair when whipped out.

Despite all this she still has significant esteem issues, both with her new status and with dealing with old wounds from growing up. She also fights desperately with herself on expressing vulnerability instead of going to the old tried and true of clamming up emotionally. Her success with dealing with both can be mixed at times.
