Jonathan Kilmore
Character Biography
- Physical Appearance
Jon is deceptively lanky, a tall man ( just shy of 6 feet) with a gaunt, long face. His dark red hair has a bold streak of gray at his temples, and he has a neatly trimmed goatee on his sharp chin. He wears glasses only for reading or doing meticulous tasks. There are shadows under his eyes, which are often bloodshot from lack of sleep. His eyes are hazel, though when his headmate fronts, they turn an unsettling shade of gold. This is because Jack exists, even in human form, in a state of near-change, always a moment from all-out monstrosity. When Jack is in control, Jon's normally well groomed hair is tousled, his fingernails are hard and claw-like, and there is a fanged quality to his crooked grin. Their arms are scarred up and down from the self-inflicted clawmarks during attempts to control the beast, and two deep scars run across their face from the encounter that cursed them in the first place.
In his worgen form, Jack (Jon rarely has anything to do with the beast) gains about a foot in height, standing mostly straight with little of the typical hunching over of his kind. His fur is thick and he has a bristly ruff of a mane. His fur is the same rusty-red as his hair, save for around his eyes and his cheeks, which is white.
- Personality
Many words have been used to characterize Jon Kilmore; shrewd, ruthless, cold, calculating, dry as kindling. Also 'stark raving mad.' As a result of the mental trauma upon discovering himself plagued with the worgen curse, Jon developed a split personality-- not just an 'inner beast' in the form of the worgen, but a true second self. This other Kilmore calls himself Jack. Jack is about as murderous, backstabbing (and frontstabbing, sidestabbing, facestabbing...), and unhinged as they come. He's not a complete sociopath, thanks to Jon's constant checks and negotiations with his 'associate,' but it's still wise not to provoke his exceptionally short temper.
- History
Jonathan Kilmore is the second son of widower Robert Kilmore, a prominent furrier and hide trader in Greymane City. His elder brother, Cole, was in charge of skinning and tanning the hides their father brought in, and Jonathan was apprenticed to Cole at a young age. He learned to stitch together the leather scraps into wearable odds and ends, and earned himself a bit of coin in the family shop. He had a head for numbers, and excelled in his schooling. His real fortune (though small by most standards) came from skimming the Kilmore's profits as the business' bookkeeper. As the only one in his family who could read or do figures, no one was the wiser.
He played for a time at social games, dressing in finery and attending the races at the Royal Turf Club. He soon realized it to be only a game, indeed, and quickly grew bored with the charades and the posturing. He began to accompany his father and brother on their hunting and trapping ventures, searching for something internally. He felt as though there must be some way to bring excitement, adventure into his mundane life, and perhaps he would find some greater meaning in existence by tapping into the primal, barbaric thrill of the hunt.
What he found was far more than he bargained for. The Wall had made everything harder to come by; with game scarce near the city, they were well into the outlying country woodlands. The Kilmore brothers were checking their last bear traps, knowing they were out too long after nightfall. In the last trap was a worgen-- one of the first sightings, so neither boy had any clue as to what it was, other than Very Angry and Very Large, with Very Big Teeth. The worgen, cornered and badly wounded, tore free from the trap and attacked them both. Cole managed to get a fatal shot off, but not before Jon had been badly savaged. In their haste to get him to a doctor, the worgen's carcass was left behind.
It was a shame they had left the proof behind. The stories of an eight-foot tall wolf-man were called 'fantastical,' and the Kilmore family was scorned and scoffed.
The business fell on hard times, and both Robert and Cole blamed Jon's 'bumbling' for the state of their good names. One argument grew heated into the night. Come the morning, City authorities who were investigating complaints of shouting, even screaming from the house, found only Jonathan, sitting alone in a chair, literally covered in the blood of his kin. He only smiled when questioned, even laughed outright, and warned that they would surely have to believe him now.He was placed in an asylum for the criminally insane, where he has languished for the last two years in solitary confinement. In the night, the attendants are too horrified by the gutteral snarls coming from his cell to venture a look through the tiny barred window. As the rumors of the wolf-men have fast become the awful truth, after all, the beastly sounds from Jon's cell sound all too much like laughter...
